Donald Wilhite Obituary

Donald McKinsey Wilhite, 81, of Moingona, Iowa, passed away on Friday, July 6, 2007 at the Boone County Hospital of Boone.
Funeral services will be held on 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 10, at the Schroeder ~ Walter Funeral Home, Fifth & Story Streets of Boone. Don Howard will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Moingona, Iowa. Full military honors will be conducted graveside by the Boone Veterans Council.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 9, at the Schroeder ~ Walter Funeral Home, Fifth & Story Streets of Boone from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Family will be present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning at the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. to the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family and a memorial will be established for Hospice of Central Iowa.
Donald McKinsey Wilhite was born on April 11, 1926 in Centertown, Missouri, the son of Richard Bland and Mary Edna (Cheatam) Wilhite. He attended school in Centertown, Missouri. Donald moved from Centertown, Missouri to Moingona in 1941, to live with his uncle and aunt, Bill and Emma Hornbeck, which had been in those years a eating place called the Hornbeck Inn in Moingona. Donald served in the United States Navy stationed in the South Pacific as Seaman 1st. Class, during WWII.
Donald was married to Grace Jane Ericson on January 23, 1947 in Boone at the Sacred Heart Church of Boone. He was a Journeyman Electrician, working at Chuck's Electric, Garvey Electric of Boone, and Kenny's Electric of Boone, then Iowa State University of Ames in the Residence Hall. Donald was an electrician all his working life, until his retirement in 1988. Donald and his wife, Grace have lived the last 60 years in Moingona. Donald was the oldest native resident of Moingona. The couple wintered in Mesa, Arizona as snowbirds for the past 18 years. They had lived a few months in St. Louis, Missouri.
Donald was a life member of the V.F.W. of Boone, past president of the Moingona homecoming.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and other outdoor activities. He was a bee keeper and an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents; his four brothers, Raymond, Eugene, Billy and Franklin.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Wilhite of Moingona; his son, Donald McKinsey Wilhite Jr. & his wife Gwen of Avondale, Arizona; his daughter, Linda Sue Keenan of Ogden, Iowa; his son, Michael (Mike) Eugene Wilhite & his wife Amy of Moingona, Iowa; his son, Thomas (Tommy) Lee Wilhite & his wife Linda of Algona, Iowa; several grandchildren & several great grandchildren; his sister, Sarah Wyrick & her husband Jude of DuPo, Illinois; his brother, Richard (Dicky) Wilhite & his wife Rose of Moingona, Iowa.
Schroeder ~ Walter Funeral Home, Fifth & Story Streets of Boone is in charge of the arrangements.
