Alice Sousa Obituary

Alice Mary( Costa) Sousa, a longtime resident of Danbury passed away at her home on Sunday August 15, 2010 surrounded by her family. She was 87 years old. Mrs. Sousa was born in Fall River, Mass., on January 1,1923. She was the daughter of the late Antonio Mendes and Maria Da Nazare Costa Mendes. Alice moved to the Danbury area as a young girl and attended Danbury Schools. She later met and married her husband Frank and they recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on July 31st She was an inspector in the Finishing Department for American Cyanamid(Davis & Geck) retiring after 25 years of service. Alice is survived by her husband Frank, her daughters, Diane (Janos) Gyori of Danbury, and Darlene Sousa of New Milford; three sisters, Lucille Lepore of Fairhaven, Mass., Aldina (Antonio) Borges of Danbury, and Raquel (Antonio) Caetano of Portugal; two brothers, Raul Rodrigues, of Florida and Amandio Rodrigues of Portugal, and two sisters-in-law Virginia Costa of Glendale, AZ, and Maria Augusto of Wethersfield; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Ilda Da Nazare Coelho, Nancy Antunes, and her brother Anthony J. Costa. Friends and family will gather to attend a Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. at St. Gregory the Great Church 85 Great Plain Road, Danbury on Wednesday August 18, 2010. There will be no calling hours. Burial will follow at St Peter Cemetery, Danbury. In lieu flowers memorial contributions may be made to Regional Hospice of Western CT, 405 Main St Danbury, CT 06810. The family would like Regional Hospice of Western, CT, and At Home Care of CT., a special thanks to Monica, Candida, and Tanya for their compassionate care and devotion during her illness. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Green Funeral Home in Danbury.

Dear Uncle Frank, Darlene, Diane, and Janos. We send you all our love, thoughts and prayers at this sad time. We always enjoyed stopping to visit when we came to Danbury. Tia Alice will hold a special place in our hearts and in our memory of her. Take care.
