Arthur Frattini Obituary

Arthur J. Frattini Sr. Arthur Joseph Frattini Sr., 87, of Ridgefield, died Friday, September 14, 2007, peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving children. A Ridgefield native, Artie was born August 28, 1920, a son of the late Andrew and Nicolina (Boccolucci) Frattini. He attended local schools and excelled in sports. He played on the Ridgefield High School basketball and baseball teams during the 1930's. An honorably discharged World War II U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Frattini was a retired painter with Union Local #808 for over fifty years prior to his retirement. An avid golfer, Mr. Frattini, along with Harry Bennett, won the Ridgewood Country Club's Member-Guest Tournament in 1961 by sinking the winning putt. His most recent win was the Ridgefield Old Timers Athletic Association Tournament at the age of 82. Among his multiple golf stories was the achievement of 4 'holes in one'. He was a 70-year member of the Italian American Mutual Aid Society, an Honorary Life Member of the Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department, and of St. Mary's Church. Mr. Frattini was honored by the Ridgefield Old Timers Athletic Association and presented with their athletic achievement and recognition award. Artie will always be remembered as always a gentleman, good friend to many, sense of humor, Ridgefield pride, and the tales of local history, including sayings like, "I have young blood in an old container" or "I'm meaner than a junkyard dog". He will be sadly missed. Artie is survived by his five "beautiful" children and ten grandchildren: Donna Frattini Cox and children Christopher, Brittany and Jeffrey Arthur; Arthur Joseph Frattini II; Peter Frattini and his wife Susan and children Will and Adrian Arthur; Salli Frattini Hess and her husband Robert Hess and children Harrison, Annabel and Charles Arthur; and Susan Frattini Levitt and her husband Len and children Douglas and Dylan. In addition to his parents, Mr. Frattini was predeceased by a brother, Charles Frattini. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at 10:15 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield, Tuesday, September 18, 2007 from 5 to 8 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association, 90 East Ridge, Ridgefield, CT 06877.

i loved Artie, like a Father, i lost mine in 1972, Artie he asked me to call him instead of Mr. Frattini, he said calling him Mr. made him feel old, he called me bobby just like my family here and in Canada called me, he used to bring home food for me and Artie Jr., he was one of the kindest people i have met in my life. He spoted me at Friendly´s in town and would actually pick up my tab without me knowing. When i asked about it , he would say must of been someone else. He gave without ever expecting anything in return. He always bragged about his 3 daughters and 2 sons. He had so much fatherly love when he spoke of his children. I was in Canada when he passed away and i was sad when I went to Ridgefield i bumped into his neighbor and he said Artie had passed, since the i read the newspaper. I missed one of my best friends funeral. when i visit my dad and recently my mom, i always go visit Artie´s resting place, i know he is in Heaven in the arms of the LORD

It was my pleasure and good fortune to cross paths with Artie. He taught me how to plant a vegetable garden, to putt, to look for the bright side...numerous lessons which I will always carry with me. My deepest condolences go out to the entire Frattini family and the countless others who are grieving. Artie was truly a spectacular man.

Our family is saddened with the news of Artie's passing. He was a regular at our laundromat for many years, and never failed to have a good word to offer. He'd often appear with Danny Whelan or Bill Frazee, and they'd all carry on. We'll never forget Artie, or the wonderful way he looked at life. Our heartfelt condolences to the Frattini family, and we hope they will remember that the separation will be short, and the reunion sweet...
