Charles C. Gehm of Gaylordsville passed away on Saturday, June 13th 2015 in Danbury, CT. Born in Alliance, Ohio on September 20, 1929, he won the Scholastic Art Awards Certificate of Merit in 1948 along with a scholarship to attend the Columbus College of Art and Design. Charles enjoyed great success as an illustrator, and during his long career created book cover art for every major publishing house. His collectible art projects include a series of limited edition Gone With The Wind prints and Grimm's Fairy Tales plates, and posters for the films Barry Lyndon, The Island, The River, The Betsey, and Death on the Nile. In 2002, The board of the NYSE selected him to create their annual Christmas card. Also a fine artist, he received numerous awards, and his oil paintings have been shown in galleries in NY, AZ., OH, MA. and CT. As an adjunct professor, Charles taught illustration, painting and design at WCSU and Pratt Institute. He is survived by his wife, Judy York, also an artist and illustrator, and his brother, Phillip S. Gehm of Alliance, OH. Services will be held at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford, on Saturday June 27th. at 12 pm. Internment will be private.
