Frederick J Weiss
Frederick John Weiss, 82, passed away peacefully in the dignity and comfort of his home on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, gently stepping into the loving arms of Jesus Christ.
Fred was born November 21, 1935 in Hoboken, NJ. He was the second of six children to the late Arthur and Helen Stout Weiss.
Fred married Marguerite A. Harkin September 21, 1963. While they started their life together in the Bronx, they quickly moved to the country in 1968, settling in New Fairfield, Ct. Fred and Marge just surpassed being 50 year residents of New Fairfield.
Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, working as an electrician and demolitions expert. Fred was honorably discharged, returned from Korea, and began his career as a steam fitter.
Graduating from the Voorhees Technical Institute with a certification in refrigeration. He worked with many mechanical and plumbing contractors in the area as a member of Union #777 before retiring in 1997. Fred was renowned for his work ethic, his dependability and his outstanding craftsmanship.
Fred is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marguerite "Marge" Weiss. Fred leaves three children: Michael J. Weiss Sr., his wife Linda Schillinger Weiss of New Milford, Ct. and their two children: Michael J. Weiss Jr and Jennifer Megan Weiss; William A. Weiss of New Fairfield; and Katherina M. Weiss and her children: Sara Weiss, David Weiss, Alexander Frederick and Jackson Hunter of Vicksburg, MI.
Fred is survived by his brother: Joseph; a sister: Carolyn Demeo and her husband, Angelo; a brother-in-law: William Harkin; a sister-in-law: Sandra Weiss as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers: Arthur, George and Robert. He was also predeceased by his in-laws: William and Mary Jameson Harkin.
Fred loved to read, especially history. He had a passion for food and cooking. He was an avid vegetable gardener and accomplished chef, just like his father. He very much enjoyed trips to Rhode Island and loved surf fishing.
Fred was filled with joy whenever his children and grandchildren would call or come to visit. He was a very loving and affectionate husband, father, grandfather and friend.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 14, 2018 at St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield with the Rev. Nick Cirillo, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be private.
Friends will be received from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. on SATURDAY, May 12, 2018 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT.
Contributions in Fred's memory may be made to the Pediatric Regional Hospice Program, c/o Regional Hospice and Palliative Care, 30 Milestone Rd., Danbury, CT 06810.
