George Graef Obituary

George Lewis Graef Jr.
George Lewis Graef Jr., of Danbury, CT died peacefully on Tuesday, December 18, 2018. He was 91 years old. George had been in the care of the Regional Hospice and Palliative Care for several weeks before his passing, most recently at their care center in Danbury.
George is survived by his children, Paul of Portland, OR, David of Campbell Hall, NY; George III of Lincoln, NE, and Robert of Wilton, CT, along with ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Gloria (Gallucci) Graef and his parents, George and Julia (Cree) Graef of Danbury, CT.
George, Jr. was born on July 15, 1927 in Danbury, CT. He grew up in Danbury and attended Danbury High School. In 1945, George joined the Navy and served in the Philippines. He married Gloria Gallucci on June 9, 1951, and they settled in Bethel where they raised their four sons. George worked for Schlumberger in Ridgefield for 26 years where he made many lifelong friends. After his retirement from Schlumberger in 1983, George and Gloria moved to a farm in Oxford, NY where they lived until Gloria's death in 2002. George loved raising his own fruits and vegetables, and especially enjoyed sharing his fresh picked blueberries, corn, and tomatoes and monster zucchini with family and friends. George returned to Danbury in 2003, where he reconnected with many of his old friends. He particularly enjoyed the monthly class lunches with his Danbury High School classmates and getting together with his Schlumberger friends.
There will be a celebration of George's life scheduled in the spring. The family appreciates the care and compassion that George received from the Regional Hospice and Palliative Care and asks that any remembrances be sent in his memory to Regional Hospice and Palliative Care, 30 Milestone Road, Danbury, CT 06810.
