Irene Mortensen Obituary

Irene V. Mortensen
1923-2023
Irene Vivian Mortensen, 100, formerly of Ridgefield, died peacefully November 2, 2023, at The Village of Brookfield Commons, Brookfield, CT. Irene was born on July 9, 1923, and was a daughter of the late Harry and Jane (Kopp) Hansen. She married the late Eugene "Bud" Mortensen February 23, 1945. They lived in and loved Ridgefield, CT for about 70 years. Irene volunteered in several groups in Ridgefield doing many sewing and craft projects. She worked for the Ridgefield, CT school system for many years. During their retirement years Irene and Bud were able to go to their summer home in Rhode Island, as well as often traveled to Maine and down the coast to Florida.
Irene is survived by her son, Wayne Mortensen and his wife Beth (Allan), their children Craig Mortensen, his wife Alison, and Lisa (Mortensen) Wilcox, her husband Geoffrey, as well as great-grandchildren Genevieve and Wesley Wilcox. Irene also leaves her granddaughter Melanie Mortensen and her partner John Straub III.
In addition to her husband and parents, Irene was pre-deceased by her son Bradford Mortensen, as well as her brother Harry Hansen and her sister Anita Cyr.
Contributions in Mrs. Mortensen's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Services will be private.
