Joseph W. Tarrant III
Joseph W. Tarrant III, loving father of three, passed away on Dec. 26, 2020. He was 63 years old. Joe, also called Jay, was born on Sept. 6, 1957 to Joseph W. and C. Joan (Stieber) Tarrant of Bethel, CT. He attended Bethel schools, and graduated Bethel High School in 1975.
In high school, he played varsity basketball, football, and track and field. He was a member of the band and, through the work-study program, worked at Boehms . He was also an acolyte at St. Thomas Church in Bethel. After graduating, he worked at Unimation .
Joe enjoyed racecars and was a member of the pit crew for Jack Ely and Scott Sasso at the Danbury Racerena. He was an avid NASCAR fan.
On Dec. 4, 1982 he married MaryEllen Wood. After a short time in Bethel, they moved to Hamden, CT, where they raised their three children. He coached his children in the Greater Hamden Baseball Association, and enjoyed taking them to the New Haven Coliseum for hockey games. He was a long-time employee of SNET/ATT.
Joe is survived by his mother C. Joan (Stieber) Tarrant of Bethel, CT; his three loving children Joseph IV (Veronica Perez) of Branford, CT, Margaret Paul (Gabriel) of Fort Hood, TX, and Timothy (Nikki Rodican) of Wallingford, CT. He is also survived by his three beautiful grandchildren Christian Tarrant, and Carter and Egan Paul; two brothers James (Susan) and Jon (Rhonda), three sisters Pam Cahill (Jack), Corinne Gassett (Stacey Faust) and Lesli e Sanford (Greg Barnak). He is also survived by his brother-in-law James Wood along with many nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his wife MaryEllen, father Joseph, niece Cortni Gassett-Fitch, and great-niece Aubrey Rose.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Contributions in Joe's memory may be made to the Joseph W. Tarrant Jr. Memorial American Legion Scholarship, 7 Elizabeth St., Bethel, CT 06801.

Joe was a classmate of mine and a teammate on the basketball team. Joe was a great teammate and classmate. Joe’s father also taught me how to drive at Bethel High School. Thoughts and prayers to the family at this time.
