Kathryn (Kathy) Kosek, 81, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025, at Danbury Hospital.
Born on October 2, 1944 in the Bronx, Kathy was the daughter of Michael Labiak and Angeline Labiak (Laudicini). From a young age, she possessed a deep love of learning-one that would guide her throughout her life and profoundly shape the lives of her students. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Hunter College in 1967 and her Master's Degree in Education from Lehman College in 1972. A devoted educator in the Yonkers Public School System for many decades, Kathy believed wholeheartedly in the power of kindness, curiosity, and encouragement. Her guidance and dedication left a lasting impact on the countless students who were fortunate to learn from her.
Widowed for more than twenty years following the passing of her beloved husband, Joe, Kathy continued to fill her life with purpose and joy. She cherished her friendships, volunteered for causes close to her heart, traveled widely, and found great delight in her beloved second home in Maine. A proud survivor of breast cancer for more than two decades, she felt strongly about supporting others facing a cancer diagnosis by volunteering at Danbury Hospital, Ann's Place, and Relay for Life. Her love of the arts-especially the theatre-remained constant throughout her life. She delighted in afternoons spent at Broadway shows and took special pleasure in supporting local productions, particularly at the Ogunquit Playhouse, which she held dear.
Kathy is survived by her brother, Michael Labiak, and was affectionately known as "Aunt Kathy" to many honorary nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind countless cherished friends and neighbors who will remember and miss her warmth, wit, and kindness.
A visitation will be held at Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Rd., Brookfield, CT, on Monday, December 8, from 4–7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, December 9, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Rd., Danbury, followed by burial at St. Peter Cemetery in Danbury.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ann's Place, in honor of Kathy's deep commitment to supporting those facing cancer.
