Martin F. X. Ryan, age 55, of St. Paul, MN, died peacefully in his sleep on October 8, 2025; the cause of death was a heart attack. He was born on December 10, 1969 at St. Vincent Hospital in Manhattan, son of the late Dermot F. Ryan and Bernadette (Heaney) Ryan-Kelly.
Martin excelled at sports in his early years, as a standout basketball player at
Joel Barlow High School in Redding, CT and Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter,
NH. In college Martin was a proud and important member of the 1990 NCAA
Division III championship basketball team at the University of Rochester; a 6'6"
power forward and 4-year letterman, he was a formidable presence on both ends of the court.
After graduating from the University of Rochester in 1992, Martin started his
career in finance, working for the NYSE, Bank of America and NASDAQ. In 2018, he founded a digital services agency, EGS Creative, in St. Paul where he focused on building websites for fast growing public companies.
Martin was a quintessential Renaissance man. He had a wide range of interests
and abilities, such as songwriting, singing, piano, drawing, painting, hiking,
skiing, mountain biking, fishing and film making. He had a rare gift for turning his creative ideas into real, tangible works, and he cared deeply about sharing them with the people he loved. In the late 90's he was the founder and Executive Producer of the wildly original TV program, The Extreme Craftiness Show, which ran on San Francisco public broadcasting for 6 years.
He had a deep and abiding faith and was an active member of the Recovery
Church community, where he served as a trustee. He is survived by his mother, 3 siblings, 10 nieces and nephews, and a biological daughter, Kristen Noel.
There will be a memorial mass at St. Francis of Assisi in Weston, CT on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Martin's honor to The Recovery Church, 253 State Street S, St. Paul, MN 55107.
