Muriel Cordett Sullivan, age 95, died peacefully on November 24, 2025 in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. She was born on October 29, 1930 in Newark, NJ to Franklin Louis Cordett and Emma Elizabeth Kolbus. She was raised in Ansonia, CT where she attended the Assumption School and graduated from Ansonia High School in 1948. In 1952, she graduated with honors from the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station, NJ with a BA in history. She later received a BS in Elementary Education from Southern Connecticut University and served as an elementary and secondary level teacher. She married William W. Sullivan in 1955 and the couple made their home in New Fairfield, CT, where she resided until 1998. They divorced in 1980. Muriel was an avid bridge player and a lifelong student of history.
While living in New Fairfield, CT, Muriel was an active parishioner at St. Edward the Confessor Church and the Founding President of the New Fairfield Republican Women's Club. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and a homemaker. In 1964, she became President of the Danbury Junior Service League, and was an active supporter of her former husband's multiple political campaigns and public o[ices. Muriel was an active member of the Danbury Garden Club and a member of the Connecticut Board of Realtors, before moving to Jupiter, FL in 1998. She returned to Southbury, Connecticut in 2002 and was elected a member of the Board of Directors of her condominium association at Heritage Village and then president. Muriel spent the last five years of her life living independently near two of her daughters at Elm Terrace Gardens, a Continuing Care Retirement Community, in Lansdale, Pennsylvania.
Muriel was immensely proud of her five children: Judith Sullivan (Charles Goochee); David Sullivan (Wendy); Maura Sullivan (Danny Krizanc); Lisa Mancuso (Matthew); and Siobhan Millar (David). She found great joy in her eleven grandchildren: Emily Rosenthal (Sam Shoap); Grace Zakim (Josh); Henry Mancuso (Diane); Julia Sullivan; William Sullivan; Maeve Sullivan; David Millar; John Michael Millar; Margo Mancuso; Lylah Sullivan; and Savannah Sullivan. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Leo Zakim, Gabrielle Zakim, Gemma Shoap, and Lucas Mancuso.
A funeral Mass will be held at the Church of the Assumption in Ansonia, CT on December 15, 2025, at 10 a.m., to be followed by a graveside service at Mt. St. Peter's Cemetery in Derby, CT.
