Nancy Lauriat Obituary

Nancy M. Lauriat
Feb. 9, 1921 - Jan. 1, 2019Nancy McLean Lauriat, age 97, of Southbury, CT, formerly of Washington Depot, CT, died peacefully with family on January 1, 2019. Predeceased by her husband, Charles E. Lauriat III, her daughter-in-law Denise D. Lauriat, her granddaughter Margaret Lavigne Plum and her sister Grace M. Smith; survived by her brother Robert B. McLean and Priscilla of Saratoga, CA, four children, the Hon. Peter M. Lauriat (Ret.), of Burlington, MA, John R. Lauriat of Roxbury, CT, Deborah L. Lavigne and James of Somers, CT, Suzanne Lauriat and William F. Sheridan of Waltham, MA, daughter-in-law, Alison S. Lauriat of Waltham, MA, 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was born February 9, 1921 in Danbury, CT, daughter the late John R. McLean and Margaret Bigelow McLean. She attended Danbury H.S. and graduated from Russell Sage College in 1942. She married Charles on April 1, 1942, prior to his departure for active duty in the Pacific Theater in World War II. During this time, she lived in Boston, using her retail skills as a buyer for Filene's department store – often reminiscing of those days where she lived in an apartment on Commonwealth Avenue in the Back Bay and attended Red Sox games nearby. She moved to Washington, CT in 1958, where she worked at the Green Drug Store. She became an active alumnae of Russell Sage, serving the college as member of the Board of Trustees, a class treasurer, a class agent, a class reunion coordinator, and a volunteer for two separate capital campaigns. Over the years, she returned to the campus for numerous reunions and attended college-related events in Southern Connecticut. At her 60th reunion she received the Crockett Medal, the College's highest honor given to alumnae. She and her husband were volunteer service dog trainers for NEADS for many years and loved travel both near and far. They enjoyed the salty ocean waters of Ogunquit, ME, Bermuda and Barbados; golfing and many afternoons spent playing bridge with their close friends; as well as cheering on the University of Connecticut basketball teams.
The family would like to thank caregivers Holly Reger, The Hearth at Southbury staff and Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center who provided unending love, joy and companionship.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family and a memorial service will be planned for the spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Marginal Way Preservation Fund, P.O. Box 1455, Ogunquit, ME 03907 or NEADS, National Education for Assistance Dog Services, P.O. Box 1100, Princeton, MA 01541.

It has been over 60n years, but I warmly remember the Lauriats, the McCleans and the rest of our Church Family from old First Church. I see that your Mom and mine both received The Crockett Award from Russell Sage College. Two pretty remarkable women. My thoughts are with you all.
