Orlando Busino Obituary
Orlando F. Busino, 95, of Ridgefield, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. He was the loving husband of Ann (Darlington) Busino having just celebrated 70 years of marriage. Mr. Busino was born on October 10, 1926 in Binghamton, NY; a son of the late Frank and Rose (Clementi) Busino.
A resident of Ridgefield since 1962; Mr. Busino was a retired Cartoonist and his work was published in newspapers and magazines including McCall's and Boy's Life. He was a member of the Cartoonist Society and a 3-time winner of the Gag Cartoonist of the Year Award and several other awards. Mr. Busino was a faithful parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ann; and their children: Christopher Busino, Michele Busino Carrano, Andrea Busino Dolan and her husband, Jim, Robert Busino, and Frank Busino. In addition, Mr. Busino is survived by 2 grandchildren; Joseph Carrano and his partner, Audrey, and Danielle Stewart, and her partner, Tashia Jones as well as his great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Austin, Adrianna, Penelope, and Taylor and his great-great-grandchild, Roman. In addition to his parents, Mr. Busino was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Diane Busino Bryant.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 55 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery; 110 North Street, Ridgefield. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the International Rescue Committee or to a charity of your choice. Kane Funeral Home, Ridgefield is in care of funeral arrangements.

I just found out that one of my Comic/Inking Heroes, Orlando Busino passed away last year. Damn.
Mr Busino was one of the greatest Cartoonists who ever lived. You can ask the Hernandez Brothers, Steve Leialoha, and virtually everyone I ever introduced to his work. So many Professionals were insanely inspired by his work... AND... he had one of the Best Brush lines of all time. it was juicy and so perfect.
I miss having you in the world.

I just learned today of Ann's passing, in Sept. I am a cartoon illustrator and friend, who arranged for public celebration of his GUS panel 52 years in Boy's Life. Wow!

I remember loving the Gus cartoon in Boys' Life when I was a Scout decades ago. Now, in my adult life as editor of Boys' Life, my appreciation for Orlando's 52 years of service to the magazine and to Scouting has only grown. On behalf of the entire Boys' Life team, thank you, Orlando.

I remember Mr. Busino from when I fixed his heart at Danbury Hospital many years ago. I still cherish the lovely drawings he gifted me that subsequently graced my office. I very much enjoyed meeting him, seeing that twinkle in his eye, and hopefully prolonging his life. My deepest condolences go out to his family.

I am shocked and saddened in losing my dear friend, yet thankfully this past year brought us together to promote scouting and himself, honoring his 52 years drawing GUS. Writing the Forward to my upcoming book about magazine cartooning, his words will forever instill his knowledge and caring to readers and I will always treasure him, Ann and the manner this couple cared about their fellows. Orlando was AS GREAT at his craft today as he was decades ago and was the last of his kind in both this area and in his field. I am ever saddened yet proud and buoyed having known this man simply made my life better. God Bless you and your family.
