Peter Filous Obituary

Peter Filous
Peter Filous, a longtime resident of Roxbury, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, November 19th, 2022, with his family by his side. Known as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, CEO, President, founder, Chairman, and Veteran, Peter leaves behind an enduring legacy of inspiration, courage, and commitment.
Born in Aichach, Germany, on May 8th, 1946, Peter lost his father in a flood at a young age and emigrated to the United States shortly thereafter in 1963, along with his mother, to join his beloved brother, Ottmar "Otto", who led the family to America in search of hope and promise. Peter was drafted as a non-citizen into the United States Army to serve our nation in Vietnam and earn U.S. citizenship from the country he loved. Peter fought for his adopted country from 1965-1967. He was recognized for his squad leadership and precision, injured in battle, earning a Purple Heart and eleven other medals of valor and courage.
Peter returned to this area and had a long successful career in banking and real estate development, most notably as President of Danbury Savings & Loan, where he worked for over 20 years. Peter was passionate about civic duties, playing an important role in Roxbury's Planning Commission, Housing Authority, and Republican Town Committee. Peter was dedicated to the physical and emotional well-being of veterans, playing a leadership role with the A/2/12 Vietnam Veterans Organization; an assembly of men he fought bravely with.
Peter's friends and family were many. He leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Lucille (Esposito), who was his soulmate and partner in this world. He also leaves behind his daughters, Christine Penney (Mark), and Jennifer Colangelo (John); and his sons, Theodore "Ted" Anastasio (Kelly), and Michael Anastasio (Hoa). Peter's grandchildren will be eternally loved: Charlotte and Hannah Penney, Gabrielle and Max Anastasio, Michael, Ava, and Ariana Anastasio. Donna Filous (Erickson), Otto's wife, also played a special role in his life; along with his nephew, Jonathan Spaner; and many other nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his mother and father, Berta and Alands Filous; a sister, Gabriella; and his brother, Otto.
A Celebration of Peter's life and Military Honors will take place on December 4th at Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT 06776. A Military Honor Guard Ceremony will be held at 1:00pm, a Celebration of Life Service at 1:30pm and visitation to follow until 5:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, 1615 L Street NW, Suite: 430 Washington, D.C. 20036.
