Philip Sheridan Obituary

Philip H. Sheridan Philip Henry Sheridan, age 89 of Ridgefield, husband of Kathleen (Cramer) Sheridan died Friday, April 17, 2009 at Danbury Hospital. Mr. Sheridan was born in Philadelphia, Pa., December 10, 1919, a son of the late John and Elizabeth (Dowe) Sheridan. He was raised in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx and attended local schools, Cathedral Preparatory School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Joseph's Seminary and College, Yonkers, N.Y. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Sheridan commanded a submarine chaser during the invasion of the Palau Islands and attained the rank of Lieutenant Senior Grade. In 1947, Mr. Sheridan joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Criminal Investigations, and retired in 1970 as a Special Agent. He then joined the firm of Marsh and McLennan of New York as an underwriting investigator for 12 years, retiring in 1982. A resident of Ridgefield for 27 years, Mr. Sheridan was active in the Marquette Council 3rd degree Knights of Columbus and the Rev. John D. Kennedy Assembly 4th degree Knights of Columbus, where he was a member of the Color Corps. He was an active member of St. Mary's Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Usher. Mr. Sheridan was a member of the Special Agents Mutual Society, the American Legion of Ridgefield, the Ridgefield Men's Club and Founders Hall. In addition to his wife of 63 years, Mr. Sheridan is survived by nine children, Kathleen and Martin Stricks, Susan and Tom Reynolds, Philip and Kyoung Suk Sheridan, Maureen and Ward Mich-aelsen, Eileen Sheridan, Patrick and Lynn Sheridan, Elizabeth White, Peter and Laura Sheridan, and Michael and Patricia Sheridan; 16 grandchildren, Megan and Terence Stricks, Kathleen Reynolds and Kristen Tru-deau, Kathleen Eastman, Susan Slattendale and William Sheridan, Marisa Michaelsen, Jaclyn, Erin and Brian Sheridan, Chelsea and Carter White, James Patrick Sheridan, and Matthew and Kathryn Sheridan; four great-grandchildren, Alicia Slat-tendale, Kyla and Melanie Eastman and Tommy Trudeau; a sister; Claire Roberta Mechman; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sheridan was predeceased by two brothers, two sisters, and a son-in-law, Michael Ray White. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 21st at 10:15 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield with Msgr. Laurence Bronkie-wicz officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary's School Scholarship Fund, 55 Catoonah St., or to the Meals on Wheels Program, 25 Gilbert St., both of Ridgefield, CT 06877 would be appreciated. www.kanefuneralhome.net.
