Raymond Asmar Obituary

Raymond A. Asmar, Sr.
Raymond A. Asmar Sr., 93 of Danbury, CT passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving wife Joan, children, and grandchildren on Sunday, March 20, 2022.
Born October 23, 1928, he is son of the late William and Hannah (Louis) Asmar. Ray graduated from Danbury High School in 1946 and upon graduation, proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954.
In 1955, Ray married Joan Marie Jowdy, the love of his life. Together, they raised five beautiful children. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Raymond Asmar Jr. (Adrienne) of Delray Beach, FL; William Asmar (Hiam) of Danbury, CT; Debbie Senker (James) of Bethesda, MD; David Asmar of New York City and Warren, CT; and Marshall Asmar of Danbury, CT. Ray was also a proud grandfather and is further survived by his five grandchildren: Hannah, Rachel, William, Matthew, and Elizabeth.
He was predeceased by his beloved brother, Norman L. Asmar.
Ray owned and operated Mutual Motors of Mill Plain Road and was an astute real estate investor. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Anthony Maronite Church and an active member and former officer of The Lebanon American Club.
An avid gardener, reader, chef, innovator and so much more – Ray truly was a Renaissance Man. He was at his happiest when his home was filled with family and friends. Ray was always there to lend a helping hand and was quick to remind everyone that the true recipient of a gift is the giver.
He will be remembered as a friend, mentor, confidant, and pillar of his community. He left an everlasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to have experienced his gracious nature and kind heart.
The liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 12pm on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at St. Anthony Maronite Church, 17 Granville Ave., Danbury with the Rev. Naji Kiwan, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends from 9:30am to 11:30am on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at St. Anthony Church, 17 Granville Ave., Danbury.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Lebanon American Club Building Fund, 22 West St. Danbury, CT 06810 or to St. Anthony Church.

Ray and Joan were those familiar faces that all members of extended families should have. Their passing brings back memories from my childhood to when we moved to Massachusetts, ranging from Aunt Hannah's house on Spring Street to gatherings at the Jaber houses, church bazaars, weddings, funerals and all around Danbury. Our deepest condolences to all. Rest eternal grant to them, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon them.

I will always be thankful to the way your dad helped my uncle George (Greenie) during the later stages of his life in 2008. He and your mom were great people. I can not help but think he, your uncle Norman, Whimpy and Greenie are having a "catch" in heaven right now. All the best to you and yours.

So sorry for you loss. He was a gentleman, humble and caring man. He will sorely be missed. A famous expression when asked "how are you", he would reply, in Arabic "baadna aam nemshi", translated, "I am still walking". This was passed onto him from another elderly man decades ago, and in turn pass it onto us. May he rest in eternal peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.

He was one of the most incredible, kindest, funniest human beings I have ever met. He had an infectious personality like no one else. He was someone that always made you feel good to be around and you just knew he cared deeply. I always joked around with him when I hugged him and said wow why do you smell so good. I was hoping to go and see him soon, sad I didn´t make it there in time. A beautiful soul!
He will truly be missed.

My deepest condolences to all of his family.
