Richard A. Ehrhard
Richard A. Ehrhard, 95, of Brookfield, CT and Lakeworth, FL, husband of Dora (Butera) Ehrhard and father of Michelle A. Volpe, died on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Danbury Hospital.
Affectionally known by many as "Uncle Dick", Mr. Ehrhard was born in Danbury, October 8, 1924, the son of Peter and Bertha (Bailey) Ehrhard. He attended Danbury Schools and graduated from Danbury High School.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Ehrhard participated in the 1st wave of the D-Day Invasion on June 6, 1944, when allied forces staged an enormous assault on German positions on the beaches of Normandy, France.
Mr. Ehrhard was a retired produce manager with the First National Store of Bethel and later was employed at the Hi-Way Market of Brookfield.
A lifelong area resident, he resided in Brookfield for the past sixty years and wintered in Lakeworth, FL.
He enjoyed gardening, landscaping, bird watching, reading and most especially the time shared with his family.
In addition to his wife Dora of seventy-one years and daughter Michelle, Mr. Ehrhard is survived by a son in law Charles "Chick" Volpe Jr. of Danbury; two grandsons, Charles Volpe III and his fiancée Kate Appley and Michael Volpe and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ehrhard was predeceased by three sisters, Eleanor Taylor, Margaret Fitzpatrick and Beatrice Kolwicz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Danbury.
Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury on Monday, November 4, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Contributions in Mr. Ehrhard's memory may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Rd., Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
