Richard Miguel Obituary
July 28, 1939 - May 12, 2025
Dr. Richard J. Miguel, age 85, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, in Libertyville, Illinois.
Born on July 28, 1939, in Danbury, Connecticut, Richard was a lifelong advocate for education and public service. He dedicated his career to advancing learning, holding numerous influential roles in educational leadership. He earned a Ph.D. from Columbia University in New York and a Master of Arts from Western Connecticut State University, and he was awarded an Education Fellowship at Harvard University.
Over the course of his distinguished career, he served as Director of Research and Development at The Ohio State University and as Assistant State Superintendent for the Illinois State Board of Education. His work helped shape educational policy and innovation, impacting countless students and educators nationwide.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Laurian Greenbury (Jeff); his sister, Pamela Clinton (Ron) of Connecticut; and his grandchildren, Ryan Greenbury, John Greenbury, and Megan Pilkington. He is also remembered fondly by extended family and cherished friends across Connecticut, Illinois, Ohio, and Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laurian Miguel (née Allen); his daughter, Lynne Mynatt (Brian); and his parents, Manuel and Florence Miguel (née Noble).
Private ceremonies will be held by the family in Connecticut and Illinois to celebrate and honor his life and legacy.
