Robert Simpson Obituary

Robert Davies Simpson Jr, 88, took the hand of Jesus on September 19, 2010 while surrounded by his loving family at his home. Born to Robert Davies Simpson and Bertha Hall Simpson on May 28, 1922 he grew up in Bridgeport with his siblings Tom, Esther, Bill, Barbara and Sally. A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 as a large motor mechanic. After returning home from overseas he met and courted Margaret Tanner where they worked at Underwood. They married on July 24, 1948 and moved to Bethel with their young family in 1963 and into what is still the family homestead. Devoted husband to his loving wife Margaret of 62 years, he was the original "S" of S&S Electric of Bethel until he "really" retired (following several false starts) at the age of 82 years. Known to most as Bob, he loved his children and grandchildren, his beautiful flower gardens, caring for his home, riding his motorcycles, and was always there to help a friend, neighbor, or anyone whenever someone was in need of assistance. He was infamous in his latter years for his sense of humor, as most who came in contact with him- even his Hospice and oncology nurses - can attest. In addition to his wife and love of his life Margaret, and his surviving siblings Barbara and Sally, he will be truly and sorely missed by his adoring children Ray Simpson and his wife Joan of Bethel, Barbara Spain and her husband Darry of Danbury, and Marjorie Simpson of Virginia Beach VA, and his three grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital, 24 Hospital Avenue Danbury, CT 06810, Regional Hospice of Western CT 405 Main Street Danbury, CT 06810 or a charity of your choice. The family will receive friends at a memorial gathering in the Green Funeral Home 57 Main St., Danbury on Friday September 24rd from 5 thru 8pm. A prayer service will take place at 7:30 p.m.

Dear Family,
Uncle Bob has made a great impact in many lives over the years. Uncle Bob has always been my greatest uncle and mentor. As a child I loved him dearly, but thought he was the meanest man I knew, I would always go back to him though. Little did I know then what an influence he would be to me in my teens to the present. I always looked forward to he and Aunt Margaret and the kids visit to our home. Then when I started driving I would visit them as often as I could. After my wife Nancy died in 1979, and I had remarried, sometime in the 80’s they took care of my daughter Dawn, helping and working with Dawn. Dawn was so independent and hard to work with, Uncle worked with her (Auntie too) in their home for over a year, and guided her in so many ways, always with putting Jesus first. If it wasn’t for Uncle, most likely I would not be the Christian man I am today. Oh, how we will all miss him. It is assuring to know that he is with the Lord Jesus Christ, and I will see him again. My prayers and thoughts are with you all at this time. Charlie

A Great Man that made Great impressions on many, I will always remember and often do when I say the LORDS PRAYER which I learned from him while in the Boy Scouts in Bethel. Its been many years since Bethel, living down the road and Boy Scouts, but for sure this will be a man never forgotten in my life time. I Thank him for instilling many great things in my younger life which I have carried with me through the years. Our Thoughts & Prayers are with him, his entire family and friends. GOD Bless Bob Simpson and may he rest in Peace.

I am sorry for your loss. I will miss our talks and laughs I enjoyed so much.
Just a few years back, he took my 6 year old daughter's " Barbie Pink" bike for a ride. Ringing the bell and circling the yard, not only was he entertaining, he was entertained too.
Always brought out a smile and laugh for me.
