Ruth Elwell Obituary

Elwell, Ruth
Ruth (McCarthy) Elwell, 71, of Brookfield, beloved wife of Gary R. Elwell, died peacefully at home on Saturday, August 15th. She was born in Danbury on October 12, 1943, daughter of the late Joseph McCarthy and Ruth (Evans) Santoro. She was a graduate of Danbury High School.
She worked for the Danbury Superior Court Community Service Division, retiring after 27 years. She was an active member of Walnut Hill Community Church and enjoyed volunteering with their Prison Ministry at the FCI in Danbury. In her younger years she enjoyed learning sign language and volunteered to translate for the hearing impaired.
Ruth spent countless hours in her many gardens. She was creative and loved to knit, crochet, and cross stitch. She was known for the beautiful baby blankets she lovingly crafted for her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She opened her heart to everyone and was lovingly known to many as "Mom" or "Aunt Ruth."
In addition to her cherished husband of 52 years, Gary, she will be sadly missed by her four children, Joe Elwell, Lisa Baldwin, Scott Elwell and his wife, Ann, Jeanne Gebert and her husband, Wayne; her eight grandchildren, Joseph, David and his fiancé, Erin, Ryan, Sarah, Tyler, Megan, Michael, and Hailey; and her great grandson, David, Jr. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Mike Baldwin; her sister, Helen Fortin and her husband, Joel; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Jeanne Cothran.
The family will receive friends at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, on Friday, August 21st between the hours of 5:00 and 7:00pm, with a service beginning approximately at 6:30pm.

Aunt Ruth,
You will be missed more than you know.
I will always cherish our gardening experiences that you taught me. How you made my two girls feel so part of your extended Family-they love you so.
For Jim he will always remember having the sweetest loving and down to earth Aunt anyone could ask for. The one he got to spend time with and reconnect with his cousins because of.
You will never be forgotten, just missed bunches!!
Love always,
