William Grandison Obituary

Grandison, William E.
William Eugene Grandison, 90, died peacefully at St. Peter's Hospice Inn, Albany, NY, on Thursday, August 20, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Port Chester, New York on January 30, 1925, he was the last of nine children of the late Michael Grandison and Leila Alice Shadbolt Grandison.
Mr. Grandison was an army veteran of World War II serving with the 563D AAA AW BN and proudly participated in campaigns in Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. It wasn't until after the attacks of September 11 that he was able to tell his family about his experiences, including the mission he and a buddy volunteered to drive supporting troops to secure the Ludendorff Bridge in Remagen, a major victory of the Battle of the Bulge. His friends purchased a brick in his honor for the Veterans' Walkway in Rogers Park War Memorial in Danbury, Connecticut, which he was able to see before his passing.
After the war he studied to become an aircraft instrument mechanic. He retired from the New York Telephone Company where he worked for 37 years as a frameman and later a switchman.
Mr. Grandison was an active member of the Danbury United Methodist Church for over 50 years where he taught Sunday School and was a member of the Men's Club and Chancel Choir. He also participated in the chorus of various summer stock theater productions at the Brookfield Playhouse during the 1970's.
Mr. Grandison is survived by his daughters, Jamie Grandison of Danbury, Ct. and Jody Mason (Ron) of Glenmont, NY, his granddaughter, Amanda Collins of Wallingford, PA, his grandson, Andrew Mason of Colonie, NY and two great-grandsons. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Bruna Dragani Grandison and his great-granddaughter.
Memorial service will be held August 31, 11AM at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, New York.
Mr. Grandison's family would like to thank the staff at St. Peter's Hospice Inn, Ingersoll Place Assisted Living, and his private duty nursing staff for their loving and dignified care.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Grandison's memory to the Danbury United Methodist Church, 5 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury, CT 06811 or Ingersoll Place Assisted Living, Activities Fund, 3359 Consaul Road, Schenectady, NY. 12304.
