David V. Bend, 71, of La Moille, IL, passed away on March 30, 2022 surrounded by his wife, his brothers and his triplets at DHR Hospital in Edinburg, TX. Cremation took place at Legacy Chapels in Edinburg, TX.
A visitation will be held at Fiocchi Funeral Home in Cherry, IL, on Saturday, April 23, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Both during and after the visitation, friends and family are invited to the Holy Trinity Church hall for food and refreshments.
A private service will be held at the Holy Trinity Cemetery in Cherry, IL on Sunday, April 24 where military rites will be accorded.
David was born in Sterling, IL on April 17, 1950 to Kenneth Bend and Thelma (Bosley) Pottinger. His triplets were born in 1982. David married Mary Lou (Hiland) Bend in Jamaica on November 4, 2003.
He is survived by his wife Mary Lou (Hiland) Bend; his three children, Corinne Bend of Champaign, IL; Justin (Natalie) Bend of Mendota, IL; and Brett (Taneeka) Bend of Yorkville, IL; one step daughter, Erin (Robert) Brenner of Chicago, IL; three brothers, Les (Clarice) Bend of La Moille, IL; Alan Pottinger of Cherry, IL; and Tim (Kathy) Bend of St. Charles, IL; five grandchildren, John and Margaret (Justin and Natalie) Bend of Mendota, IL; Avery and Iris (Brett and Taneeka) Bend of Yorkville, IL; and Kira (Taneeka Bend) King of Barrington, IL; one step grandchild, Malcolm (Erin and Robert) Brenner of Chicago, IL; his first wife and mother of his children, Jacqueline (Hochstatter) Bend of Mendota, IL; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Bend and Thelma (Bosley) Pottinger; his infant sister, Joyce Bend; and his older brother, Raymond (Helen) Bend.
David was a veteran, serving as a Sergeant in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971, during the Vietnam War. In Mendota, IL he served as a volunteer firefighter, a junior tackle football coach, and a little league baseball coach. He worked at Conco-Tellus, Inc. of Mendota, IL for 25 years. He was a 20-year member of Boilermaker Local 60, working at power generation plants across the country. He retired in 2013. David loved his Pittsburgh Steelers, boating on the Illinois River, riding his motorcycle, camping, golfing, shooting and hunting, loving his grandchildren, and spending every winter since 2014, with Mary Lou and his Wagon City friends, in Mission, TX.
