Dennis Lazar Obituary

Died: February 1, 2024 in Naples, FL
Dennis Robert Lazar, 81, of Utica, Illinois died surrounded by his family, while wintering in Naples, Florida on February 1, 2024.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 3, 1942 to Alexander and Frances Lazar. Dennis graduated from Lemont High School in 1960, and attended Joliet Junior College & Elmhurst College before working at GTE Automatic Electric in Northlake, IL. He and his wife later purchased LaSalle-Peru KOA Kampground in Utica, IL in 1979, which they ran for 22 years. After retirement, he kept busy by working part-time for Rental Pros in Ottawa, IL, and Peru, IL with his daughter and son. He was also co-owner of Cubby Hole Storage in Utica, IL.
Dennis met the love of his life, Virginia Colegrove, in 1963, while mailing a letter on the corner of Cass & Scott St in Joliet, Illinois. They were married on May 15, 1965 and enjoyed 58 years together.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia, his three children, Mary Kay Stoneking (Mark) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Jill Mennenga of Morris, IL, and Greg Lazar (Jennifer Bauer & her son Killian) of Waltham Township, as well as grandchildren Owen and Katie Stoneking and Sophie and Gracie Mennenga.
Survivors also include his sister, Diane Blazevich, of Naperville, IL, his sister-in-law, Karen Hartney, of Lockport, IL, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Frances Lazar.
Dennis was a hard-working, fun-loving man that, once you met him, he left a lasting impression with his many jokes and memorable one-liners. He was the person that everyone gravitated towards when they entered a room with him. He will be greatly missed by many.
A memorial service and celebration of Dennis' life will take place in Utica, IL at a later date.

Ginny and Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Dennis was truly one of a kind and the best older cousin, always making us kids laugh and smile. I have such fond memories of family reunions where Dennis was always the life of the party making sure everyone had a good time.

Our hearts are broken by the passing of Cousin Dennis. So many great memories over the years at family reunions and time spent at their KOA campground. Dennis was one of a kind, gone too soon, and will not be forgotten. May cherished memories help comfort Ginny and her family in the days ahead.

My sister Debi and I were so sorry to hear of Dennis´ passing. My memories of Dennis are of a kind, funny, larger-than-life character who you could not help but be drawn to. My mother and father, Ed and Rosemary Romanek, were exceedingly fond of Dennis and I recall the family reunions at the campground, where everyone always had a blast. To the Lazar family, you have our sincerest condolences and I hope Dennis is making my folks laugh in Heaven.
