On September 16, 2025, Frank W. Hubbell, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 89 in Shelbyville, TN, with his wife, Elaine at his side. He was originally from Illinois, but for the last 8 years, he lived in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where he enjoyed the warm weather and the ocean.
He was born on December 7, 1935, the son of the late Henry and Jean Hubbell.
Frank married the late Eleanor Roth and they later divorced. Surviving are his children, Janice VanDervent (Hans) of Curacao, Jill Hubbell of Oley, Pennsylvania, and Kurt Hubbell of Monroe Township, Pennsylvania. Frank married Elaine Dornik DeKeyser on May 25, 1996. He is also survived by stepchildren, Barbara Cotton (Russ), of Metamora, Illinois, David DeKeyser (Collette) of Morton, Illinois, Kathy DeKeyser of Shelbyville, Tennessee, and Steven DeKeyser of Morton, Illinois. Other surviving relatives are his grandchildren, Shayla Lawrence, Ellen Epperson (Michael), Amber Witmer, Kyle Jones (Stephanie), Kendrick Hubbell, Ashley Diebel (Bill), Stephanie Leverette (Justin), Kaitlyn, Kelcee and Kaitlyn DeKeyser; great-grandchildren, Charisma Rosa, Aaliyah and Preston Leverette, Roman Diebel, Kayden Gilbert, Alyssa, Katelyn and Hailey Jones; great-great-granddaughter, Yazaria Rosa; brother, Tom Hubbell (Martha) of Mapleton, Illinois; sister-in-law, Joan Forney (the late Bill Forney) of Jacksonville, Illinois; brother-in-law, John Dornik (Pam) of Oglesby, Illinois; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Frank attended Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio studying liberal arts for two years. He completed his bachelor's degree at Indiana State University in recreation in 1959. Following graduation from Indiana, he and a friend traveled around Europe on a moped. He then pursued a Master's degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois in education graduating in 1962.
Frank spent many years as a substance abuse counselor, providing care and support to those in need. After retirement, he substitute taught in Peoria.
Frank was a history buff, and especially interested in the role of outhouses in American life. He made numerous presentations regarding outhouses that were always entertaining.
Frank was a member of several organizations including Kiwanis and Senior Olympics. As a Kiwanian, he began an AKTION Club for individuals with special needs in both Peoria, Illinois and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Additionally, he developed a Senior Olympics Program in Peoria. He was an active volunteer in the Universalist Unitarian Church.
Frank was an avid athlete participating in speed skating, roller blading, and biking. He and his wife Elaine spent many hours on the dance floor.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in LaSalle, Illinois following cremation. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in La Salle, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice at 1639 Medical Center Pkwy. Suit 101 Murfreesboro, TN 37129.
