Our beloved mom, Jan Morel Armstrong, passed away on August 26, 2024, at the age of 78, in San Jose, CA. Born on July 29, 1946, in LaSalle, Illinois, Jan's life was marked by her friendly, compassionate, creative, fun-loving, and generous spirit, and of course her sparkling blue eyes and giant dimples.
Jan dedicated her early professional years to her role as a full-time mom, a job she cherished deeply, opening her home to all of the neighborhood kids and any stray animals we found at the park. She later joined Greene Tweed, where she worked from 1990 to 2004, contributing significantly to her team and forming lasting relationships with her colleagues, especially her best friend, Dalia.
She attended St. Joseph's, and LaSalle Peru high school before furthering her education at Illinois Valley Community College and DeAnza College. She loved to learn and encourage others in whatever pursuits they had.
Jan's hobbies included decorating for holidays in ways that would rival department stores, gardening with the Morel green thumb, shopping, and baking a mean loaf of banana bread. She was also an avid fan of TMC films and cherished spending time with friends and family, which brought her immense joy and fulfillment.
She is survived by her children, Nikki Armstrong Merrick (Greg), Nathan Armstrong (Dyan), and Luke Armstrong (Hillary); granddaughters Olivia, Mya, Kate, Randy, and Ryan; best friend Dalia Vernikovsky; siblings James Morel, Jay Morel, Jill Morel Vasquez, and JoE Morel. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Buck Morel, and many beloved aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
A private service will be held for family members to honor Jan's memory. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
