Jeffrey Joseph Mudge, 72, of rural Peru, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023 at his farm, doing what he loved, taking care of his land.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 29, 2023 at the Oglesby Union Church with Pastor Bill Jacobsen officiating. Visitation will be 4-7:00 PM Friday and 10-10:50 AM Saturday at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru.
Mr. Mudge was born February 11, 1951 in LaSalle to Herbert and Elvera (Sartorio) Mudge. He was a graduate of LaSalle-Peru High School, Illinois Valley Community College and Illinois State University where he earned a bachelors degree in agriculture. He married Linda Wojciechowski on November 29, 1974 at the Oglesby Union Church. They settled back on the farm where he grew up.
Mr. Mudge was a member of Oglesby Union Church where, throughout the years, he served as a deacon, trustee, church chairman and overseer. He worked in trucking and farming. He also worked at Moews Seed and was employed at Kenton Schrowang Trucking for the last 20 years. Mr. Mudge played baritone from high school and beyond. He played in several municipal bands in the area and was a retired member of Musicians Union 307 where he had also served on the board. Mr. Mudge had a gift of talking, never met a stranger and had a remarkable memory for details about people he had met.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; his daughter, Amanda (Suresh) Gaikwad of Homewood; his granddaughter, Eliana; three foster grandsons and his sister, Martha (Larry) McKee of rural Peru.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Michael Mudge.
