Jerry L. "Jer Bear" Evanson, 62, of 610 Pike St., Peru, passed away on October 4, 2021 in St. Margaret's Health of Peru.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jerry was born in Waukon, IA on September 28, 1959 to Alton and Doris (Dundee) Evanson. He married LaVonne Plagman on September 28, 1985. Jerry served with the United States Navy on the USS Bainbridge CGN-25 from September 1978 – December 1983. He was a union carpenter with Local 916.
Jerry was a lover of classic cars and trucks. He enjoyed being on the water and outside in the fresh air. He also enjoyed grilling and carpentry. Jerry had a big heart and would give the shirt off his back.
Jerry is survived by four children Adam (Jill Reints) Evanson of La Salle, Brandon (Sophia Engelmann) Evanson of Tulsa, OK, Caitlin (Alexander) Evanson-Boyd of Charlotte, NC, and Ty (Deena Koetz) Evanson of Peru; two granddaughters Sicily and Miriam; seven brothers and sisters Roger Evanson of Coggon, IA, Charlene (John) Wolters of Dubuque, IA, Ron (Deb) Evanson of Monona, IA, Dorothy Ann Patterson of IL, Connie (Bob) Gunderson of Monona, IA, Randy (Sandy) Evanson of Monona, IA, and Terry Evanson of Ryan, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
