John "Jack" Morscheiser, 74, of Peru, formerly of La Salle, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025 surrounded by his family at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, May 23, at Grace United Methodist Church in La Salle with Rev. Solomon Sudhakar officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in La Salle. Visitation will be Thursday, May 22, 4 to 7:00 PM at the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle. Additional visitation will be in the church on Friday from 9:30 AM until time of services.
Jack was born in La Salle on August 27, 1950 to Harold and Marjorie (Thompson) Morscheiser. He married Donna Stuart on March 27, 1976 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Peru. He was a 1968 graduate of La Salle-Peru Township High School. He graduated from University of Illinois in 1972, where he excelled in football, and he earned his Bachelors of Public Health and Safety Education. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois Police Training Institute, Illinois State Police Academy, Napa Valley College in Valejo, CA, and the Northwestern School of Police Staffing and Command. Jack worked for the Peru Police Department and La Salle County Sheriff's Department. He retired from Illinois State Police in 2006, after more than 30 years of law enforcement, where he was promoted to the rank of Captain, Commander of District 17 La Salle.
Jack was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Illinois Police Association, Illinois Troopers Lodge #41, National Troopers' Coalition, Illinois Valley Chiefs of Police, University of Illinois Alumni Association, Varsity I Association, Elks, and Retired ISP Association. He enjoyed health and fitness activities, boating, and coaching Illinois Valley Youth Football League. He loved spending time with family and loved watching the grandchildren participating in sports and other activities.
Jack is survived by his wife Donna of Peru; three children Jill (Curt) Carroll of Cumming, GA, Mark (Tina) Morscheiser of Utica, and John (Jenny) Morscheiser of Utica; eight grandchildren Kyra (David) Gibson, Christopher Carroll, Andrew Carroll, Landon Morscheiser, Grady Morscheiser, Lily Morscheiser, Mason Morscheiser, and Jaron Morscheiser; one great-grandson Bentley Gibson; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
