Died: February 9, 2024 in La Salle, IL
Marie A. Phillips, 85, of La Salle, passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2024 surrounded by her family after a short illness.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday at the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle with Tammy Grimes officiating. Burial will be in Peru City Cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday from 9:30 AM until time of services.
Mrs. Phillips was born in Oglesby on December 17, 1938 to Edward and Marie (Argubright) Towne. She married Edgar W. Phillips on January 23, 1960. She was a meat wrapper at Peru Eagles and La Salle A&P Store.
Mrs. Phillips enjoyed quilting, needlepointing and tending to her flower garden. She was an avid reader, especially her bible.
She is survived by four children, Becky Brown of Peru, Lou Ann (Jason) Grimes of Serena, Bonnie Bixby of Cary and Edgar T. Phillips of La Salle; twelve grandchildren, Rachel, Cheryl, Joshua, Alyssa, Whitney, Adam, Kira, Trevor, Luke, Joel, Kirsten and Michael; five great-grandchildren, Scotty, William, Ryker, Brinley and Grady; and one brother James Towne of Peru.
She was preceded in death by her parents;her husband Edgar on May 25, 2021; one daughter Candace Phillips; one grandson Nathan Berogan; four siblings, Caleb "Tippy" Towne, Jerry Towne, Janet Small and Suzie Pinter; and a son-in-law Carl Brown.
Pallbearers will be Joshua, Adam, Luke, Trevor, Michael, and Kira.
