OGLESBY – Mary Ellen "Peachy" Gandolfi, 90, of Oglesby died at 3:54 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Aperion Care in Spring Valley.
Private family funeral services will be held at the Barto Funeral Home in Spring Valley, with Pastor Marc Strand officiating. A public Celebration of Life visitation for both Mary Ellen and her husband, Rudolph, will be held at a later date. Burial will be at the DePue Cemetery.
Mary Ellen was born on March 31, 1931 in DePue to William and Anita (Sanger) Haywood. She married Rudolph Gandolfi on August 20, 1949. Rudolph preceded her in death on November 9, 2020.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mary Ellen had worked at Westclox, Grace & John's Restaurant, the Vermillion Inn, Woolworth's, and retired from Stewart Warner Hobbs.
Mary Ellen is survived by her son, William Gandolfi Sr. of Oglesby; three grandchildren, David (Priscilla) Gandolfi of Seymour; Nicole Gandolfi of Everett, Washington, and William (Samantha) Gandolfi of Lincoln; seven great-grandchildren, Katlynn, Taylor, Tony, Kadence, Jonathan, Noah and Lillian; and her nephew, Rick (Darlene) Doll of Anna Maria Island, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Rudolph (who was the former Chief of Police for the city of Oglesby ; and her sister and brother-in-law, Helen (John) Kozell.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Miss Peach was a great woman! I met her when I worked at the I80 McDonald's in Peru. She would come in for coffee and gossip. I still have a gift that she gave me for my birthday ~ a 1993 penny with a candle cut out. It has been on every set of car keys that I have owned since then. My sincerest condolences to her family on her passing.

She was a true classy lady who was always there for her friends. While she may not have been able to walk a lot, her sporty red car gave her legs. She could start a conversation with anyone and have them laughing in minutes. While I don’t see cardinals in California, if I did, I would know it was Peachy. ❤
