Peter Yucus Obituary

Died: February 6, 2026
Peter Richard Yucus, 98, of rural Princeton, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Manor Court of Princeton.
Funeral services for Mr. Yucus will begin at 11:00 AM, on Tuesday, February 10th, at the Barto Funeral Home in Spring Valley. Deacon John Murphy will officiate. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Ladd American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be held Tuesday morning, in the funeral home, from 10:00 AM until time of funeral services.
Rich was born in Chicago on September 13, 1927, to Peter J. and Jenny (Malakauskas) Yucus. He married Joy F. Murphy on September 12, 1964, at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Seatonville. She preceded him in death on July 22, 2025.
Rich was a graduate of Hall High School, and he was a veteran of the United States Army, serving at the end of World War II, from 1945-47, in the Counterintelligence Corps (CIC). He farmed in various places throughout his life, while also working at various local factories up until his retirement in 1995, including the Ladd Rubber Plant, Ladd Tool & Die, Sundstrand, Phillips-Johanna, and Valley Container.
He was a member of the Ladd American Legion and the Ladd Moose. Rich enjoyed working on cars and farming. He looked forward to a cup of coffee with his local farmers at Torri's in Ladd or Hardee's in Spring Valley. He was also an avid reader, from magazines to the daily News-Tribune and Bureau County Republican.
Rich is survived by his two sons, Dr. Chad Yucus, of Skokie, and Michael (Rachel) Yucus; two grandchildren, Connor and Alexa; along with nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Joann Legner, and his three brothers, Daniel, Ed, and Paul.
