Born in Peru, Illinois on January 4, 1932 as the youngest of three brothers to Peter John and Edna (Loos) Trompeter, Raymond attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and graduated from Saint Bede Academy in 1949. He received his Bachelors in Finance from the University of Notre Dame in May 1953. After serving in the United States Army Quartermaster Corps, he returned to Peru, married Charolotte J. Junker on June 29, 1957 at St. Joseph's Church, and lived out the rest of his life contributing to the community that he loved.
A local employer, he built roads and bridges with his brother as the third generation of Trompeter Construction Company. They grew the business and several mergers later, he and three business colleagues founded Universal Contracting Corporation where he held the role of President.
He served as Chairman on the Board of Directors of the Peru Federal Savings Bank, and enjoyed his work with the Zoning Board of Appeals helping to grow and improve the community.
He was an avid boater and spent many hours with friends and family on the Illinois River toggling between the Spring Valley Boat Club and the Starved Rock Marina. He could be a daredevil, waterskiing bare foot between a passing barge and the bridge supports. He enjoyed attending Notre Dame football games with his classmates for decades after graduation and was active in the Notre Dame Club of Starved Rock. Later in life, he loved the warm Florida sunshine and sea breeze during the Midwest winters.
He was a dedicated father and totally devoted to his wife, Charlotte, of 64 years. He never tired of telling stories about how they met and professed his love for her daily. He never had an unkind word to say about anyone and conducted himself always with grace and humility.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Donald and Ralph and survived by his wife, Charlotte; daughters, Susan and Diane; grandchildren, Emelie, David, Jack, and Ava; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Bede Academy.
