Ronnie J. Tondi 89 of rural Peru, Il passed away Friday November 1st 2024 in OSF Hospital in Peru, Il.
As per his request there will be no services. His family will have a private service at a later date. The Helmer-Shields Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Ronnie was born May 26, 1935 in Peru, Il to Reno and Mary (Tonarelli) Tondi. He married Carol Helmig June 8, 1957 in Holy Rosary Catholic Church in LaSalle.
Ronnie retired from ADM Grain in Spring Valley as a Grain Merchandiser. He was a graduate of Tonica High School being a four year- three letterman student in baseball, basketball and track. He coached Little League and Senior League baseball, Merchant League baseball, basketball in Cedar Point, Tug O War and in later years he enjoyed playing basketball and fast pitch softball. He enjoyed golfing, trap shooting, fishing. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Ronnie enjoyed his annual trips to Minnesota fishing with his family. After retiring he and Carol wintered in Florida. He enjoyed spending every morning having coffee with his longtime buddies. He could always be seen outside working around his yard and spending time with his dogs that he loved.
Ronnie is survived by his wife Carol, two sons Eric (Susan) Tondi of Standard, Il, Mark (Cher Mikolaitis) Tondi of Rural Peru, two daughter in law's Chris Tondi of Rural Peru, Pam Tondi of Granville, brother Steve Tondi of Moline, six grandchildren Aaron Tondi, Ashley (Joe) Freitag, Tyler (Taylor) Tondi, Matthew (Brittany Shartzer) Tondi, Kayla (Drew Emerson) Tondi, Brian Tondi, four great grandchildren Duncan Freitag, Alyssa Freitag, Wyatt Freitag and Amelia Tondi and niece Shelly Bartman.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, son Greg Tondi September 16, 2019, granddaughter Lauren Marie Tondi, sister Janice Bartman and nephew Jeff Bartman.
