Vince Walters Obituary

Vince John (VJW) Walters
Born: September 10, 1954 in LaSalle, IL
Died: August 22, 2022 in Peru, IL
Vince John (VJW) Walters, 67, of Peru, passed away peacefully at home Monday, August 22, 2022, with his wife, daughters and sister by his side.
Visitation will be held 4-6:30 PM Friday, August 26, 2022, at the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru with a funeral service at 6:30 PM with Rev. Michael Pica of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, LaSalle officiating. Cremation rites will follow and private burial will take place at a later date in Peru City Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022. Additional details will be shared and football attire is requested.
Vince was born September 10, 1954, in LaSalle to Vincent and Catherine (Menning) Walters. He was a graduate of St. Patrick's Grade School, LaSalle-Peru High School and Illinois Valley Community College. He worked numerous jobs including Westclox, Bakelite, Sundstrand, Rolling Mills and James Hardie, usually as an oiler/maintenance mechanic. He enjoyed welding, car repairs and loved to tinker with small motors. When his health forced early retirement, friends and neighbors started showing up with lawnmowers. He was a self-made mechanic who loved to say "I can fix that!".
His proudest moments were marrying the love of his life, Marcia Mathieu, raising his two daughters and seeing his grandchildren born.
Vince was a people person with a big heart who lived life to the fullest. He loved racing motorcycles, power lifting, camping, fishing and traveling with his wife. His favorite trips were out west. Then, there was his LOVE of football. Vince was a HUGE "Packer Backer". Though he never served, he was a proud patriot and tended flags on his WWII veteran dad and uncle's gravesites.
He fought a long hard battle with various health issues that kept a once active man bedridden almost two years. He is now pain free and walking tall again.
Survivors include his loving wife, Marcia of Peru; two daughters, Patti (Dan Coffey) Walters and Kathi (Justin) Witek; grandchildren, Landon and Ava Witek; step-children Jennifer (Will) Parks, Matt Gapski and Kari (Travis) Watson; step-grandchildren, Gwenyth and Justine Parks and Kaya and Nala Watson; his sister, Jackie (Jim) Gergovich; his niece, Kim (Dan) Agnew and his nephew, Mike (Chelsea) Gergovich.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, he requested memorial donations be made to Illinois Valley Animal Rescue (his rescue cats were constant companions) or to the LaSalle VFW.

Vince was a good childhood friend and a good athlete. Lots of memories with all the neighborhood friends in 5th St. Park. And he will be missed. Our thoughts and sympathy for the family.

I am sorry to hear of Vince´s padding. Though I haven´t seen him in years, I went to 8 yrs at St Pats with Vince and remember him as always being kind to others.

Vince and my husband Sam were like two peas in a pod they love messing around in their little workshop. Even if they weren't working on something they enjoyed each other's company. Maybe they could work on outboard motors and lawn mowers in heaven God bless them both my deepest sympathies to the family

I have good memories of our friendship in high school. Sorry our paths never crossed after that, friend. Rest in peace.
