Charles Garland Obituary

Charles Alexander Garland Jr. was born on January 14, 1971, in Staunton, Virginia. The Lord took him to his heavenly home on March 26, 2023, at Augusta Health.

Charles graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1990. He worked at many places until health problems and he then was on disability.

He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Charles Garland and Mildred; special uncles, Alvin and Kenneth Massie; and special aunt, Doris Ott.

Left to cherish his memories are his mother and stepdad, Sandra Hooker and Barry Hooker of Stuarts Draft, Virginia; half brothers, C.G. Clark and wife, Marie, and Patrick Garland and fiancée, Amie; half sister, Michele Harris; stepsisters, Lisa Frazier and husband, Danny, and Belinda Potter and husband, Maurice; stepbrothers, Jerry Conner Jr., and Scott Hooker; "special" aunts and uncles, Barry and Sarah Robertson, Johnnie Massie, Donnie and Dottie Massie, and Louis Garland; cousins and our family members, nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by grandparents, Lester and Mary Massie, Red and Helen Garland, and Amoel and Juanita Hooker.

Charles loved the rock group Kiss, he loved being outside, loved the simple things of this world, he was a collector of things, loved people and would give the shirt off his back to anyone. He always watched Charles Stanley on Sunday mornings. He played ball in his younger years. He was so kind to everyone he met. He loved his family and his neighbors, loved going to concerts, and loved shopping.

A celebration of Charles' life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 31, 2023, in the chapel of McDow Funeral Home, with Pastor Allen George officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Pallbearers will be Danny Frazier, Maurice Potter, Colton Richardson, Donnie Massie, Patrick Garland, C.G. Clark, Scott Hooker, and Ray Brooks. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and family members. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery.

I want to thank the Waynesboro Fire Department, Waynesboro First Aid Crew, Augusta Health ER department, ICU department at Augusta Health, all doctors, nurses, and staff that were there for my son. Thank you to all of his friends at Parkway Village Apartments.

The family will also receive visitors at the home of his mother Sandra Hooker, 146 Stone Drive, Stuarts Draft, Virginia.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions may do so in his name to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, P.O. Box 937, Verona, VA 24482.|Charles Alexander Garland Jr. was born on January 14, 1971, in Staunton, Virginia. The Lord took him to his heavenly home on March 26, 2023, at Augusta Health.
