February 22, 1964 - May 18, 2022
Daniel Peter "Luvy" Hughes, 58, of Waynesboro, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at his residence.
Mr. Hughes was born on February 22, 1964, in Waynesboro, a son of the late Donald and Gertrude Mary (Schmalzried) Hughes. He owned and operated a General Contractor company for many years. He enjoyed traveling and spending time outdoors. He was an avid animal lover. Recently, he volunteered with the Wildlife Center of Virginia.
Dan is survived by his close friend, Cherie Powers of Fishersville; and his siblings, Don Hughes of Los Angeles, Calif., George Hughes and wife, Marianne Blair, of Waynesboro, Jim Hughes of Elkton, Mary Beth Lacy of Chicago, Ill., Rick Hughes of New Hope, Michael Hughes of Harriston, and Robert Hughes of Crozet.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his siblings, Charlene Hughes, Larry Hughes, Joan Hughes, Tom Hughes; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Hughes.
A celebration of life service will be held in September. His body was cremated.

Words fail me to learn of Dan's passing. He has been a family friend for many years. We had many good times together. Birthday parties and homemade pizza. We will miss him.
May the Lord be with you as you as a family work through your grief.
