November 6, 1945 - May 23, 2025

Jerry Kibler Kerby, 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 23, 2025, in Fishersville, VA. Jerry was born on November 6, 1945, in Waynesboro, VA, to Virginia and Carl Kerby. Jerry graduated from Waynesboro High School and continued his education at Fishburne Military School.

Upon graduation, Jerry joined the United States Army where he served his country during the Vietnam War. Jerry was stationed in Europe where he served as a Communications-Electronics Specialist.

After his time in the service, Jerry returned to the City of Waynesboro to invest back into the community in which he was raised. Jerry had a long-time interest in the growth and development of Augusta County and the City of Waynesboro and the creation of educational opportunities for all citizens.

His business experience included Manager of Personnel for Wayne-Tex Incorporated in Waynesboro, Personnel Director of Nibco Incorporated in Stuarts Draft, and Co-Owner/Manager of WesterN SizzliN in Waynesboro, Staunton, Harrisonburg, and Charlottesville.

Jerry's love for his community was evident in the many roles he held: President of United Way of Virginia; Board member of the local Salvation Army, United Way of Waynesboro, Waynesboro First Aid Advisory Board, Junior Achievement for Staunton and Waynesboro areas, Virginia Chamber of Commerce Labor Relations, Virginia Employment Advisory Council, and Blue Ridge Community College Center for Human Resource Development. He was also a member of the Kiwanis, American Society for Personnel Administration and the Shenandoah Valley Personnel Association.

In his last selfless act, Jerry donated his body to the Virginia State Anatomical Program, helping to improve medical treatment.

Jerry is preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Kerby; father, Carl C Kerby; brothers, Carl Kerby and Dawson Kerby; sister, Judy Lotts; and first wife, Wanda (Falls) Kerby.

He is survived by his significant other of 17 years, Connie Lee. He is also survived by his son, Reid Kerby (Liza); and daughter, Gretchen Kerby; his sister, Brenda Blough (Ron); and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandkids/great-grandkids he loved as his own.

Jerry and I grew up together and I followed him as Executive Director of the United Way. He was very supportive and at Western Siz Jerry hosted the Pacesetter luncheon every year. Waynesboro and Augusta County was near and dear to him and is better because of him.
