Mildred VanLear Obituary

STAUNTON - Mildred Brooks VanLear, 84, widow of Frank VanLear, of 206 S. Waverley Street, Staunton died Thursday (Nov. 3, 2005) in the Shenandoah Nursing Home, Fishersville. She was born Nov. 9, 1920 in Staunton, the daughter of the late John Edward and Clara (Cain) Brooks. Mrs. VanLear was a graduate of Beverley Manor High School, Class of 1938. She was a caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an avid gardener, loved to crochet, and had a wonderful sense of humor. In addition to her husband, who she married on May 12, 1940, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Marshall and Thomas Brooks. Family members include a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca V. "Becky" and Robert A. "Bob" Rhodes of Staunton; and a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Brian R. Rhodes, LTJG USN, and Melissa A. Rhodes of Jacksonville, Fla., both of whom held a special place in her heart. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday (Nov. 7, 2005) in the Pleasant View Lutheran Church Cemetery in Springhill by Pastor Robert F. Holley. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 6, 2005) in the Henry Funeral Home.
