Sara Burns Obituary

Sara Frances Burns, 77, of 533 14th Street, Waynesboro, died Tuesday, (Nov. 1, 2005) at Waynesboro Manor. She was born July 6, 1928 in Waynesboro, a daughter of Charles Edward and Ina Virginia Downs Lafferty. She was a member of First Baptist Church, was a volunteer for Red Cross blood drives, and worked as an editorial assistant to both Louis Spilman and Bill Spilman at the Waynesboro News-Virginian. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward M. Burns in 1992,; and three brothers, Leo H. Lafferty, Wallace E. Lafferty, and James D. Lafferty. Surviving are two sons, Edward M. Burns II and wife, Sherrie, of Waynesboro, and Joseph C. Burns and wife, Nancy, of Duluth, Ga.; one brother, Ray P. Lafferty and wife, Shirley, of Waynesboro; six grandchildren, Kelly A. Burns, Gregory A. Burns, Matthew A. Burns, Grayson A. Burns, Caitlin A. Burns, and Joseph C. Burns, Jr; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church by the Rev. David Washburn and the Rev. B.C. Akers. A private interment will be held earlier in Riverview Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mary Margaret Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 301 S. Wayne Ave., Waynesboro, Va., 22980.
