Dennis Hazzard Obituary
He was born on Nov. 25, 1941, in Milford to Jean and Walter Hazzard.
Dennis graduated from Milford High School in 1959 and began his radio broadcasting career at the local station, WTHD. He then went on to other radio stations including WAFL. Dennis later switched careers to become the Assistant General Manager at the Delaware State Fair. He occupied this position for several years before being appointed General Manager. He retired from this position in 2007.
He was a longtime member of the Board of Directors of the Delaware State Fair. He was also a member of the International Association of Fairs and Expos and the Maryland Association of Agricultural Fairs and Shows.
Dennis enjoyed listening to music, reading and watching movies, especially old movies. He also enjoyed going to Broadway shows and traveling. For several years he conducted bus tours to Nashville, Tenn. for the annual Fanfare.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 48 years, Vivian (née Wilson); and his two children, Amy Slonacher and her husband Garrette, and Mark Hazzard and his wife Kim. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Nicholas, Tristan and Brendan Slonacher. Also surviving are brothers, Roy, Walter, Dean and Richard Hazzard; sister, Jill Cohee; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford.
Burial will be at Milford Community Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made in his name to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, Delaware 19963

I was privileged to work with "Den" at WAFL from 1981 to 1984. I just learned today that he's gone. He was a great friend, and a passionate believer in Delaware, it's people, and history. His country music trivia book was a classic! I learned a lot from Den (although he never could convince me that "scrapple" was good to eat) and will miss him greatly. My sincere condolences to his family; I'm sorry I only learned of this at so late a date.

I worked with Dennis for 11 years at the fair.
I learned so much about the fair industry from Dennis.
He had a great sense of humor and was able to lighten the mood during stressful days. He loved the fair and we loved him.

I am so very sorry that I was unable to be at the service for Dennis. I have a great deal of respect for all that he did for the agricultural industry as well as the entertainment industry via the Delaware State Fair. He was a good man in a crazy business and although he will be missed, his legacy will live on for many many years.

I will always be grateful to Dennis for offering me my first paying radio job when I was just a high school senior. I drove from Newark to Milford to do each Saturday evening shift. The pay barely covered my gas money, but it was dream come true & I enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you Dennis!
