Josephine Fleming-Lloyd Obituary

Josephine Ann 'Josie' Fleming-Lloyd, 13
Josephine Ann "Josie" Fleming-Lloyd, of Sussex County, died suddenly in a tragic car accident January 17, 2022.
She was born June 3, 2008 at Beebe Hospital, daughter of Ann Marie Fleming Aguilar of Ocean View and Kenneth David Lloyd of Frankford, who survive her. Josie is also survived by her stepfather, Angel Aguilar; siblings, Shona, Cyrus, Athena and Atticus Fleming-Lloyd; half-siblings, Ashton Yox and husband John, Levi Lloyd and wife Maria, and Augustine Aguilar; step-siblings, Courtney Aguilar and husband Tyler, Kirsten Hawkins and husband Christopher, and Alana Aguilar; a niece, Alejandra Lloyd; and a nephew, Atlas Lloyd. She is also survived by her grandparents, Neil and Jeannie Fleming of Clarksville, Eileen Lloyd of Pennsylvania; step-grandparents, Angel Sr. and Sonya Aguilar; her nanny, Pat Suda of Ocean View; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family. She was predeceased by her paternal grandfather, Hugh Lloyd of Pennsylvania.
Josie attended Lord Baltimore Elementary School in Ocean View, Del. and was an eighth grader at Selbyville Middle School in Selbyville, Del. She had many dreams, including going to college in Scotland, becoming a photographer, trauma surgeon, or a traveling nurse. She wanted to travel the world and see all that was out there. She described herself in written work as an "aesthete," someone with a deep sensitivity to the beauty of art and nature.
All her life, Josie was known for her sweet, gentle nature, her sense of responsibility, her keen intelligence, and her great soccer skills. She was also known for her enjoyment of Harry Potter and had a reverence for all of nature, a special liking for storms, thunder and wind. She loved animals. She was a novice horseback rider, was learning to surf, and loved living by the ocean. She was a fine writer, attended dance, was dedicated to her school work, and played soccer with SMS and River Soccer. She had an immense love for all of her big, beautiful family, especially sleepovers with cousins. Josie loved her times at Camp Barnes and the Ecumenical Vacation Bible School held at Mariner's Bethel each summer.
A celebration of her life will be held at Mariner's Bethel United Methodist Church, 81 Central Avenue in Ocean View, Del. on Saturday, January 29, 2022 where friends may visit from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with service to follow. Covid-19 protocols with masks and social distancing will be followed.
The family is thankful for all the prayers and thoughts, food and support from the community. For those that would like to honor Josie, we ask that you plant something to remember her and beautify the earth as her presence here with us did.
In addition, memorial donations can be made out to Camp Barnes with "in memory of Josie Fleming-Lloyd" in the memo. They can be mailed to the Delaware State Police, P.O. Box 430, Dover, Delaware 19903. Checks can also be made out to Mariner's Bethel with "in memory of Josie Fleming-Lloyd/EVBS" in the memo. They can be mailed to Mariner's Bethel UMC, 81 Central Avenue Ocean View, DE 19970. Other ideas would be to pay for a child in your life to take horseback riding lessons, or to teach one how to surf, or to kayak, or to stand-up paddle board (SUP).

I'm Ace Karpin I'm a family friend of the Fleming-Lloyd family. Before Josie's brother Cyrus was born and while the three of us were growing up Josie, Cyrus, and I were best friends. While I don't have as many memories with Josie as others do I do miss her and i wish nothing more than wealth and well-being for her family that i know miss her very much. and while i write this in sorrowful tears all I can think about is how she was never able to live her life to the fullest, but then I remember that her kind and loving soul is in a better place now. I hope her memory is never forgotten and that she enjoys her time in heaven away from this world that she was to perfect to be in. Fly high Josie

To Josie's familly:
I don't know your beautiful daughter Josie or your family. My daughter Zoey was in Josie's ELA Honors class. We attended her funeral today. I was so inspired by the strenght I see in your family. I could feel the love you had for her and your relationship with God. You have such a beautiful family and Im so sorry for your loss. My daughter, Zoey, told me a story about Josie that I wanted to share. Zoey talks to me a lot and tells me sometimes no one wants to be her partner during classroon projects or assignments. She is sad a lot about that. Zoey told me recently that during a class project she was left with no one to be partners with. Zoey told me that Josie noticed she was sad and came over to her and said she would be her partner for the ELA project. I heard today how caring Josie was and Im thankful for that. It really touched my heart to hear that she cared that my daughter was sad and helped to make her feel better. Such a beautiful girl. I didnt even know her but now I feel blessed and closer to God by what she did and how she lived her life. May God be with you and your family.

I did not know Josie personally although, my 8th grade colleagues and students who knew her speak very highly of her. It is clear that Selbyville Middle School will miss her very much. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family and friends.

I am an 8th grader at SMS as well and last year, Josie and I had science and homeroom together. We were both somewhat quiet in class so we had partnered up for assignments often. I also had gotten to know her from chorus in sixth grade. Everyone from Mr. Tsavdar's choir will always and forever be family. I don't if she would've remembered me, but I remembered her and enjoyed our time together. May she rest peacefully.
