Laurel M. Christy Hughes 'Micky', 52

MILFORD - Micky Hughes, passed away peacefully Friday, June 5, 2009, in the Milford Hospice. She was 52. She was born Nov. 26, 1956 in Hinsdale, Ill. She was a 1974 graduate of Milford High School and attended Delaware Technical and Community College, where she attained a 4.00 GPA in the Paralegal Program. She was Vice President, Comptroller, Chief Title Searcher and Manager of the Title Plant for Superior Title Corporation and its owner, O'Leary Law Offices, for over 30 years. She was the spirit, heart and soul of the operation according to Barbara-Cherrix O'Leary, and continued to work until the day she died. She volunteered help with a smile to all who had a title problem from "her table" in the Recorder of Deeds Office in Georgetown. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary for VFW 6984 of Milton and member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 28 of Millsboro. She enjoyed gardening, bowling and traveling, especially trips to New Orleans and Las Vegas. She was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, loved her family and friends, especially her best friend and long time companion, Robert MacLees. Preceding her in death were her father, Herbert P. Christy; paternal grandparents, Paul and Martha Christy; maternal grandmother, Florence B. Coffin; stepfather, Charles Reed; and beloved black lab, "Christy". She is survived by dear friend and caregiver, Robert MacLees; her mother, Carolyn C. Reed; brother, Kevin S. Christy and his wife; uncle, Howard C. Christy; maternal grandfather, Chester Coffin; stepbrother, Patrick Reed; stepsister, Kate Whitteker; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after 4 p.m. A reception will follow at the Coral Bay Restaurant in Georgetown on Rt. 9. Donations in her memory may be made to the Tunnell Cancer Center, c/o Beebe Medical Center, 424 Savannah Rd., Lewes, DE 19958.
