Paul Work Obituary

Paul L. Work, 92
DOVER - Paul L. Work passed away Monday, January 11, 2021, at Kent General Hospital at the age of 92 with his loving wife by his side. Paul was born September 19, 1928, in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, to the late Paul Miller Work and Beatrice (Reesey) Work.
Paul led a very full and accomplished life. He graduated with honors from Kennett High School and was awarded a four-year scholarship to Temple University, where he majored in Organic Chemistry. His intellect led to his first job at the Quartermaster Corp in Philadelphia, and from there, he became a supervisor at the Getty Refinery. He eventually became the Head of the Laboratory as an Organic and Analytical Chemist, a job fitting for a man who loved science. After retiring from United Technologies, Pratt & Whitney Division, he moved to Dover, where his passion for teaching lead him to teach at Polytech High School for more than 20 years.
Paul shared his many adventures throughout life with the woman of his dreams, his wife, Joyce Elaine (Polk) Work. It was through their shared enjoyment of sports cars that they were brought together at a car club. His constant smile and sense of humor won Joyce over, and soon their beautiful love story began. Together, they resided in a total of six different states: Maryland, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, and finally, Delaware. In their sixty years of marriage, they raised two children and filled their lives with shared passions of teaching, travel, music, and more.
In addition to his loving wife; Paul is survived by his son, Stephen Wolf (Nancy) of Wilmington; daughter, Leslie W. Grandstaff (Keith) of Pennsylvania; and brother, Rev. Galen R. Work and wife Betty of Newville, Pa.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to be made to First State Animal Center and SPCA due to Paul and Joyce's shared love of all animals.

Mr. Work was my favorite substitute teacher at Polytech High School. I always enjoyed reading the fun facts he would write on the board along with his name. Recently, it made me happy to see he and his wife come shopping in the grocery store where I work. He always had a smile and often a joke or humorous remark to share. Rest in peace Mr. Work

Mr. Work’s friendly smile was aways a welcome sight when we greeted each other in the halls of Polytech. During numerous conversations we shared many thoughts on a wide variety of topics and I am lucky I got to know this brilliant man. Such a nice guy! May God comfort his family.

Always loved seeing him and his wife when he would bring her in weekly to have her hair done. Enjoyed the talks we would have and always enjoyed his jokes he would tell. He will be missed dearly.
My thoughts and prayers for his beautiful wife Joyce and also for his family.
God bless and rest in peace Paul. Love Melissa Holland
