Audrey Cire Obituary

CAMBRIDGE - Audrey Lee Cire, a long-time resident of Cambridge, died in hospice care on January 17, 2015 in Silver Spring, Md. Mrs. Cire was born in Mississippi on October 4, 1928. She attended high school and junior college in Mississippi and married Robert A. Cire, a former teacher at Cambridge-South Dorchester High School, in 1947. They were married for 63 years until his death in 2009. They lived in New York City, Mississippi, Alabama, and New Jersey before moving to Dorchester County in 1970. She worked as a teacher's aide at Secretary Elementary School in the mid-1970s. Mrs. Cire was a wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker extraordinare. She was a talented cook and an expert seamstress. She enjoyed living in the country and growing and preserving vegetables and fruits. She could and did sew everything, including clothes for every family member, as well as drapes, curtains, slipcovers, and other items. She also embroidered many wall hangings and decorated pillowcases. Mrs. Cire is survived by her daughter, Barbara L. Cire, of Silver Spring; her son R. Al Cire, Jr., of Montvale, Va., and her sister, N. Lawanna Simpson, of Caesar, Miss. Her daughter, Frances A. Custis, died in 2012. Other family members include grandchildren Levi D. Custis, Hannah M. Custis, A. Elizabeth Ball, and Rhiannon M., Shayleigh M., and Rowan A. Cire. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Holy Cross Hospice, 1500 Forest Glen Rd. Silver Spring, MD, 20910.
