Guy C. 'Pete' Edgar Jr., 86

EAST NEW MARKET - Guy C. "Pete" Edgar Jr., 86, of East New Market, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2009, at Mallard Bay Care Center. He was born in Cambridge on August 16, 1923 and was a son of the late Guy C. Edgar, Sr. and Henrietta Gray Edgar Bennett. Mr. Edgar graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1940. He attended classes at Johns Hopkins until he was drafted into the U.S. Navy during WWII. On September 13, 1942 he married the former Audrey Parker. She passed away on January 19, 2000. Mr. Edgar worked for Service Trucking, which later changed to Preston Trucking. He was a leased driver for 28 years where he received several different awards. His nick name was "slow poke". Some of his hobbies were bowling, where he was Maryland Senior State Champion in 1985 and won a berth to play in Reno, Nevada. Mr. Edgar was an avid sports fan and loved to watch his grandson Guy C. Edgar IV playing Little League Baseball. He also collected coins and loved the outdoors. He is survived by a daughter Carol E. "Mickey" Vickers and husband Kenneth R. of Florida and their children Kenneth R. Vickers, Jr., Lori Lynn Gagnon and Sandra Chilton, two sons Michael S. Edgar, Sr. and wife Betty of Cambridge and their children Michael S. Edgar, Jr., Shawn A. Edgar, Amy Edgar and Ashley Edgar Jones and Guy C. Edgar, III and wife Jennifer and their son Guy C. Edgar, IV, 12 great grandchildren, half brother Ken Edgar of Cambridge, two step sisters, one step brother and several nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers Herbert "Buddy" Tall, Doug Todd, Ken Edgar, Jerry Pink, George Wroten, Grady Wilson, Dennis Grafton and Gordy "Jody" Jones, Jr. A memorial service will be held today, September 2, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock. Family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
