Alexander Richmond Obituary

Alexander Richmond
Alexander Ambrose "Al" Richmond, age 72, of Ansonia, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 with his loving family by his side. A hero in the eyes of his beloved boys and a devoted husband of 45 years, Al had a huge heart and his support for his family was immeasurable. He was known by the name of "Pop" to his grandchildren and shared his love of ice cream (ALL the flavors, but especially chocolate truffle) with them. Al could fill a room with laughter with his quick wit and one-liners. His kind eyes, generous spirit and optimism will be missed, but remembered by all who knew him. Born in Bridgeport on October 31, 1949, Al called Ansonia home for most of his life. His love of music, specifically the bugle horn, shone through as a member of the CT Hurricanes Drum and Bugle Corp. where he met many lifelong friends. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he had a passion for West Point Army Black Knights football. He spent 40 years working for the State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical High school System as the Chief of Engineering Services. Al had a special talent for photography that was documented in countless photo albums of family vacations, holidays and gatherings. He enjoyed every moment of life, whether it was cheering for his favorite baseball team, the Cleveland Indians, enjoying a big bowl of ice cream or reading a book. He especially loved reading and watching everything about History. Al was a proud Dad and spent years collecting bins and binders filled with his sons' sports memorabilia, newspaper articles and accolades. He was always their biggest fan. Al was preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Stephania (Kucky) Richmond. He is survived by his wife JoAnn (Yourkstovich) Richmond; children Luke (Melissa) Richmond and Adam (Michele) Richmond; grandchildren, Troy, Mikayla, Austin, Hudson and Jax Richmond; brother Clifford Richmond and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Monday, December 13, 2021, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby. His funeral service with full military honors will follow in the funeral home at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Smilow Cancer Center, Yale New Haven Hospital, Office of Development, PO Box 1849 New Haven, CT 06508. My family has known Al for over 50 years. We all met because of Drum Corps. He and Dennis were instructors for our little corps. Al on horn. He was a regular guest every Friday night in our home for years.
I remember sending him a hard boiled egg at Easter- time when he was in the service. I wonder how he explained that to his platoon buddies. He was a very caring, wonderful man. We are saddened to here of his death, but I am sure that my husband John met him at the pearly gates with open arms to welcome him home.

To Al's Family and friends. I was saddened to learn of Al's passing. I worked with and for Al for 20 years. Al should be formally credited by the State with accomplishing the total transformation of the Connecticut Technical High School system. Working under his is leadership, background and knowledge was truly a positive life experience. He brought out the best in the people he worked with.

To Al´s family and friends-

I had the privilege of working both for and with Al for nearly two decades. He was among the very best of clients and one of the most humble of men-truly a class act. Al worked selflessly and with deep commitment for the students, faculty and extended community whom he served and always did so with the bearing of a gentleman. While his passing leaves a huge void, Al left behind an even greater legacy that will endure.

I had the pleasure of working with Al on the design and construction of Kaynor and Wilcox Technical High School projects, and various upgrades to the Technical High School buildings during his career. He was a good guy, a reasonable trustworthy man and he made a tough job easier. Rest in Peace Al-
