Alyce Struzinsky, a lifetime citizen of Branford, entered peacefully into rest on Thursday April 21, 2022, at the age of 90. Alyce was the daughter of Barney and Pauline Zdanowicz Struzinsky. She is survived by her brother, Edward.
Upon graduation in 1949, Alyce considered military service. She enlisted in the Women's Army Corps (WAC). An enforced policy change addressing the minimum height of candidates disqualified her by an inch. All disqualifying personnel were given an Honorable Discharge. That rejection was one of her most mentioned disappointments throughout her life.
Alyce had two strong concerns in her life. Her primary concern was for persons seeking assistance with personal problems. These feelings became the ultimate devotion of her career position as an administrator of student affairs at Quinnipiac College. No students were ever turned away or failing to receive thorough attentions and given support when needed. Testimony to her legacy was the number of communications which she received from former students years after her retirement.
Her second concern was for animals. She owned in her lifetime two Collie Dogs. She donated to the organizations who treated abandoned and abused dogs. Also, she supported the Fidelco organization, a trainer of guide dogs for veterans and blind persons.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Friday morning at 9:00 in the St. John Bosco Parish at St. Mary Church, 731 Main Street Branford. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
