BARBARA LAZAR Obituary

LAZAR, BARBARA EMACK Barbara Emack Lazar passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at CT Hospice with her children by her side. She was predeceased by her son, John W. Lazar, her brother, Gilbert “Gibby” Emack and her long-time companion, Salvatore Pascale. Barbara was born April 21, 1928 in Albany, NY to Harold and Dorothy (Aiken) Emack. The family later moved to Old Saybrook, CT which she loved. It was there that Barbara met her childhood and lifelong friend for eternity, Ruth Nuhn. Barbara leaves behind her children James E. Lazar, Harry D. Lazar and Susan G. (Lazar) Jason. Her beloved grandchildren Melinda, David and John and great-grandchildren, Darci, Rocco and Sophia will always cherish her memory and carry on her legacy of kindness. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom were special to her. Barbara was a 1949 graduate of Grace New Haven School of Nursing and up until her retirement, she was an RN at Yale NHH. She was well known and respected in her field of delivery and post partum care. She always had a smile on her face while humming a tune known only to her. Barbara’s children meant the world to her, and in later years, so too did her grandchildren. Being Gram put new life into her as she took them under her wing. Barbara and Sal loved taking the kids to Cape Cod where many good memories were made. Later in life, her winters were spent in Jupiter, FL, where she was fortunate enough to make many new friends. Barbara was a kind, generous and compassionate woman. She knew how to love, forgive, encourage others and above all how to accept people without judgment. She will truly be missed by all lucky enough to have met her.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, Feburary 28, 2015 at Our Lady of Victory Church on 600 Jones Hill Road in West Haven, CT. Contributions in Barbara’s name may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road in Branford, CT 06405.
