BISHOP McCLAM Obituary

McCLAM, BISHOP LETHENIAL Bishop Lethenial McClam, Business Owner of McClam Funeral Home, 74 years old, of New Haven, CT passed peacefully on October 4, 2016. He was born on June 14, 1942 in Kingstree, SC to the late Rev Dr Jackson McClam and Mother Velar Mayes Woods McClam. Bishop McClam was baptized at the age of 12 at Goodwill Free Will Baptist Church. He attended Thompson School in Kingstree, SC. He joined Bishop G.W. Morgan’s Church in November 1957. Later, he joined Corinth Temple UFWB Church, 519 Washington Ave, New Haven, where he served as an usher, choir member, and Sunday school teacher. He later became Sunday School Superintendent where he served faithfully. In August 1959, his brother, Esau wanted to start a quartet group, the Sensational Pilgrims of Faith. Esau died on November 6, 1969 and Bishop McClam kept the group going to 1971 until called by the Lord to preach. On September 27, 1974, he preached his first sermon. On December 12, 1980 he was ordained Bishop. He served as a faithful member for many years. He became President of District Union #4 (Winchester). He was then called to Pastor. Union Disciple Church opened on June 11, 1978.Bishop McClam is survived by his wife, First Lady Mary W. McClam, his children, Sheena, Shawneeque, Darrell L. and Darnell A. McClam (The Twins), 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, God children, Devon McDuffie, Dawn Aranio, spiritual sons, Apostle Vincent Smith and Apostle John Parson. He is predeceased by brothers, Prince, David, Wesley, and Esau McClam, and 5 sisters. They were all very special to him. The Twins and Shawneeque are preachers and Sheena is on her way. The family owned business, McClam Funeral Home, was opened in April 2000. It was located in New Britain, CT. In August 2001, they relocated to 95 Dixwell Avenue, New Haven, CT. A ceremony of celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at The New Trinity Temple COGIC Church, 285 Dixwell Ave, New Haven, CT. Calling hours from 8:00a.m. until time of service. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery. Bishop McClam will lie in state on Thursday, October 13 from 8:00a.m.-3:00 p.m. at McClam Funeral Home, 95 Dixwell Ave, New Haven, CT. Wake will be held Thursday, October 13 from 5:00p.m. - 6:00p.m. followed by a musical celebration service at 6:30 p.m. at The New Trinity Temple COGIC Church, 285 Dixwell Ave, New Haven, CT.
