Catherine Bernardo Obituary
Catherine DeLuca Bernardo, of Guilford and a longtime resident of West Haven passed away suddenly on January 16, 2023 in Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Luigi "GiGi" Bernardo. Born in Calabria, Italy on October 5, 1941, daughter of the late Paulo and Elisabetta DiRenzo DeLuca, Catherine was the backbone of the family business, GiGi's Bakery and Pizza. Fondly known as "Mama GiGi" in Fairhaven, she always put her children and grandchildren first. She is the devoted mother of her seven children: Rosina Coderre, Elizabeth Piper, Vincenzo (Margaret), Luigi Jr. (the late Tammy), Arsenio (Sheryl), Frank (Joanna) and Christopher (Selene) Bernardo. Sister of Josephine Lavorgna, Maria "Joann" Coppola and Anthony DeLuca. She is also survived by 37 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held Friday evening from 4:00-7:00 in the Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc. 11 Wooster Place in New Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Michael Church Saturday morning at 10:00. Entombment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
